DLPRO Commits To Help End Systemic Racism & Support Music From Black History Indefinitely
CyberFM Radio announces its new Black History Music channel supporting empowerment of African Americans.
The network prides itself in faithfully delivering a multitude of diverse musical talents to global listeners and with June as “African-American Music Appreciation Month” this milestone becomes permanent. Truthfully, modern music moguls could not properly function in this industry without recognizing the groundbreaking contributions that African Americans and Black Culture have made to our music libraries.
“We are living in one of the most important civil rights movements of our time. Each of us has a role to play in combatting racism and discrimination, and CyberFM is committed to driving real change in areas in which we can make the greatest impact,” said James Tylee.
Distributed Ledger Performance Rights Organization has a long history of supporting musical empowerment efforts. The company has earned an “Outstanding” rating by multiple agencies since its inception of CyberFM Radio more than 12 years ago, and has been nationally recognized for the impact of Autism awareness. Also, a bilingual multi-year initiative launched in 2017 that helps the Latinx Music community grow, it’s only fitting that they serve similar action items for celebrating the growth of Black Music and its Artists.
As CyberFM launches the Black History Music channel, we will listen to the historical progression of music and the genres that exist due to the great influence of African American culture. From Louis Armstrong’s signature gravelly voice to Beyoncé’s powerhouse vocals, we will journey through six decades of musical history. Listen to world renowned African American musicians as their music takes us stomping through the streets of New Orleans in the 1940’s, then transcend the lines of racial division to rip apart the social red tape of the 1960’s. African American musicians have immortalized the sound of American history.
They recognize the role that music plays in the fight for social justice, citing DLPRO’s newest joint efforts with the Mainstream For The Underground branding of Independent Music: Contributions from Unsigned and Independent Musicians in support of Black Artist’s music to ensure radio play and recognition for all communities, particularly African Americans and other musicians of color will continue to spread into our premium network of channels diversifying access for promotion.
Today’s announcement is just one step toward DLPRO furthering its commitments and building on the meaningful work that the company has done in the radio space. Diversity and Inclusion are fundamental tenets of CyberFM’s culture. They are committed to an intensified focus on the recruitment, retention and advancement of African American talent; a more comprehensive and sustained effort to create a more inclusive culture at DLPRO; and a focus on internal systems to improve racial equality.
“Within the company, we are having more candid, transparent and quite frankly, more difficult conversations about the challenges facing our black artists and listeners and what we must do to change that,” Tylee said. “We have a responsibility to act — a responsibility to each other, our listeners, social communities and musicians. We need to seize this moment and use our voices, our influence and our resources to address racism, discrimination, and bigoted disparities that plague our country and this can be done through the celebration of music.”
Hip-hop, Rap, and Rock ’N’ Roll are three powerful genres that have launched an entirely new cultural phenomenon that is deeply attributed to African American culture. Much like Jazz, R&B, and Soul have swept through the music mainstream, it has captivated listeners with powerful messages about social and political issues as well as taking a front seat in the world of mass media development.
